If it's your cat, you're responsible for the damage they do. 

We all love our cats, but you have to admit that they come with some drawbacks. The good usually outweighs the bad, but that doesn't mean that there aren't going to be some bumps along the way. Animals are unpredictable after all, and they don't have the same priorities as humans do. Sometimes it will make a mess, and you will have to clean it up. They will make odors that you have to contend with, and they will sometimes permanently alter your furniture. They will knock over precious belongings, and they will feel no remorse about it. It's just what cats do. And we put up with it because we love them, and they make our lives better in so many ways. But you also have to be responsible for what your animals do when you're at home, especially if you live with roommates. When you were finding a place to live, you were probably thinking about whether or not they would be OK with pets. You probably have some sort of agreement in place that one of you, the cat owner, will assume all responsibility for the animal.
